Water babe MAX

Max has been for some hydrotherapy today, in fact it was his first session. It is hoped that the hydrotherapy combined with his walks etc will strengthen his remaining leg muscles, back and chest muscles as well as improve his stamina.
Max did really well. He was not at all bothered about meeting and being handled by new people. He soon sussed out where the treats were kept and helped himself to a few before he was fitted with his lifejacket and helped into the warm water.
Max loved it, he swam really well and Katie, his hydotherapist was really pleased by the way he kicked out strongly with his remaining legs.
Afterwards he enjoyed a warm shower and was dried off with a rather noisy hairdryer which didn't bother him at all. In fact he really seemed to enjoy all the pampering.
When we arrived home he had an "extra special" tea and has been pushing up the zzzz's.......mind you Max snores very loudly !!!!
He looks even more fuffy and bear like now !!

Caught "red pawed" !!

I wondered what was going on in the kitchen as all I could hear was a series of bumps and bangs.
This is the culprit !! Got his head in the swing bin and then ended up wearing it like a necklace ! don't you just love this big bear Max ,xxxxxxx

SNOW MAX !

Max loved the snow, he rolled over and over and over !! It was easy to see where he had been in the garden.......just had to follow his "yeti" sized footprints. Bless him.
Oh dear Max has just been told off and is now sitting there like a big quivering jelly bear !!! Iora, our tiny tabby cat has just told him in no uncertain terms that she is "the boss" and that he must do as she says !! His face is priceless.

Just a few more pics of the "MIGHTY MAX" or gentle giant Maxy Bear !!. Max seems to love a game of football and lumbers after Baz and Bobs, and those two being the naughty collies they are run too fast for him and take great delight in running circles around him. However when they get caught out Max easily gets the ball off Baz as Baz just gives it too him without a fight !! and Max simply sits on Bobs and squashes her !! Mind you she gets her own back by giving Max a crafty nip before running off......usually with Max in pursuit.
This seems to be good excercise for Max, although he does fall over at times and I swear Baz and Bobs are laughing at him !!
Max loves to lie next to the window and watch the world go by, he appeared facinated by a couple of blackbirds hopping about in the garden and was quite happy to watch them for ages.
It is lovely to watch Max discover and enjoy life and no matter what he has been through he appears to hold no grudges.......just a big heartful of love.

The MIGHTY MAX!!

Meet "MIGHTY MAX", the biggest puppy we have ever fostered !! He really is a gentle giant, a big cuddly black bear.
It has certainly been interesting in our house since Max arrived. Poor Bazra and Bobbie just looked on in amazement and sheer disbelief when I walked in with him and I am still trying to convince them that Max is really a puppy, albeit a big one !!
I first met Max in November when I went with Sarah to visit the Romanian Underdog Sanctuary in Brasov, Romania. In fact Max was one of the first dogs we met and he welcomed us with lots of his special cuddles. Max had a badly injured left front leg and shortly after we met him he had the leg amputated and the next time we saw Max was when he was recovering and he still wanted to give us fuss. Fortunantly Sarah was able to offer Max a place at Wiccaweys and he arrived last week and after a few days at Wiccs he came home with me.
Max is the biggest dog we have had in our house and it has been a steep learning curve because Max can reach everything and being young he wants to explore everything. Max is a happy boy and his tail is constantly wagging and so far this has knocked off plants, books and ornaments !!
Today I saw everything sliding off the table as Max had decided to hang off the tablecloth, it was all happening in slow motion and I just couldn't stop it.
We have no idea whether Max has been in a house before but so far he has been brilliant, no accidents and loves to lie fully stretched out, which makes for a very interesting obstacle course !
Max is extremely gentle, he really is a softie and loves fuss and also loves to give fuss. He is very receptive to our voices even if he doesn't understand us !
Max is learning to cope with loosing one of his front legs and at the moment is sometimes wobbly, unco ordinated and clumsy which means that he often ends up in a rather undignified heap....but he just picks himself up and carrys on. Whilst we might feel sorry for him, Max is just getting on with things and certainly doesn't intend to let this stop him enjoying life. He loves to join in with Baz and Bobs playing football and you can really feel the ground vibrating as he runs towards you.!! He is a talking point in the village and several folk have done a double take when they have seen him, thinking I was walking a bear !!
I think the most challenging thing about Max at the moment is getting him in and out of the car safely without any of us hurting ourselves. Once in the car Max travels well. He has met quite a few new people and been out to the local country park and he has been a star.
He is currently stretched out at my feet, snoring away, so much so that I can't hear the TV.
I do hope that someone can see past "a 3 legged dog" and see Max for who he is and for the potential he has to bring so much love and happiness as well as lead a full life.

Sunday, 25 December 2011

Lacey has been good day and had several "chill"out times which worked well. AS you can imagine she loved all the pressies, people, treats, food etc. She did get a bit carried away at times with all the excitement of the day and a few folk had a nip or two......just practising her collie skills.
Hope you all had a lovely day. Happy Christmas from a very tired Lacey.
